DOWNLOAD FLASH MOVIES : The problem is that if I delete the "" tag the flash movie justdisappears... I'm using IE5 Mac...Some readers would see that more as a benefit than a problem ;-)MS are members of the W3C consortium which produced the relevantinterworking specification. You could ask MS why they aren't doingthe specified interworking (but whether you'd get an informativeanswer to the question is anyone's guess).Your choice, in other words, is either to conform to the W3C spec inthe interest of long-term resilience, and allow those who won't playby the rules get your graceful fallback, which you're presumablyproviding; or let yourself be pushed around by whatever theproprietary flavour-of-the-month demands. There are times when youcan't achieve both. It's up to you, really, and depends on what you want to achieve (andwhether you care about the long-term WWW).On Tue, 5 Nov 2002 18:58:01 +0100, "Alan J. OBJECT is just completely broke, both in implementation, and inspecification, best to avoid it in HTML documents IMO.I'm not sure this is correct: nothing in the HTML spec. says it should behave like IFRAME, and any frame-like behaviour has generally been deprecated*. In order for the contents of an OBJECT element to be a suitable replacement for the object, links would need to behave the same way in both situations. But clearly links in alternative content relate to the whole parent document, not just to some embedded 'frame'. So logically links provided via an external data source (or via the fanciful inline data URIs mentioned in the spec.) would also have to relate to the parent document as well. In lots of cases this makes sense - imagine trying to use OBJECT to include a standard page navigation, for example. DOWNLOAD FLASH MOVIES : [* Okay, frames were not deprecated, they were just left out: they can't be used with the strict DTD because of the lack of the target attribute.]Only if you need the "target" attribute. Not all frames pages need it (but probably many). If you don't need it (for linking between frames) you can use Strict dokuments as content in the various frames (defined in one or more Frameset docs).True, but IMHO this is just what causes all the bookmarking problems and I didn't think we wanted to get into the frames debate all over again / relive 1997 or whenever :-) Frames mightn't have been quite so bad if every link had automatically loaded into the top level and each possible combination had had to have its own frameset document.Frames are bad, the spawn of the devil, etc. No argument with that. I just wanted to correct a factual error. DOWNLOAD FLASH MOVIES : Over at Macromedia's site, I had the chance to look at Stan Lee's newflash comic, the 7th portal. What are the artistic hurdles in making comics using Macromedia'sFlash program? Is it a form that is well suited for narrative? General thoughts? How long are people willing to sit in front of their screens to watcha story unfold?Would a serialized narrative told in 5-6 (could it be longer?) minuteinstallments work well?Personally, they're just short cartoons to me. I could see theirvalue as a low cost way for properties like Spiderman to reach a moreglobal audience but like anything on the net if it makes money itproliferates until it's done to death. I don't consider them equal toor even in the realm of comics as like I said they're basicallycartoons. I doubt I'd ever pay to watch one and depending on thelevel of advertising you can alienate your audience. It would be atightwire act but for a low cost way to create cartoons for a largeaudience I think they've got huge potential. DOWNLOAD FLASH MOVIES : I agree here. They're not even particularly well written cartoons either.I prefer the static media of comics because the artists have to choose justthe right pose or expression to get his point across. It would bedisappointing to see comics heading in this direction. I tend to be more ofa reader than an admirer of artwork (although I'll do that too from time totime). If it takes me longer than 20 minutes to finish a comic, then thewriter put too many words in it.A 5 - 6 minute Flash cartoon wouldn't be all that enjoyable either. Iwouldn't OWN one. And I couldn't taunt people that didn't.--~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~P arker Smart Creator / Writer / Artist / President On Fri, 24 Mar 2000 21:41:59 -0700, "Parker D. I mean I think it's great that anyone can createa cartoon and release it to the public but look at Isit me or is it just lame? Similarly, mini-comics are looked on as theblack sheep of comics because of the horrendous ones that exist.
